A codeshare flight is a flight that is marketed by one airline but operated by another. This means the flight you book might have the flight number of one airline, but the actual aircraft, crew, and service are provided by a different airline.
Codeshare agreements are partnerships between airlines that allow them to sell seats on each other’s flights. The purpose is to offer passengers more destinations, better connections, and greater flexibility, even if the airline they booked with doesn’t operate that specific route themselves.
For example, you may book a flight with Airline A, but when you arrive at the airport, you check in and fly with Airline B.
While codeshare flights are common and usually seamless, they can sometimes affect things like seat selection, baggage rules, or check-in procedures, depending on the operating carrier.
